In the Gulf of Guinea, there has been one incident reported for the period observed. Nigerian media reports that the governor of Rivers State is clamping down on illegal refineries, ordering local officials to give him details of any they know of. Ghana’s Navy has signed a deal with Tullow to provide protection to oil sites in its waters. The IMB has cautioned shipping not to drop its guard in the region.
In the Indian Ocean, there has been one report of a suspicious approach in the Gulf of Oman. Sri Lanka completed an operation with INTERPOL, which saw them arrest a number of terror suspects upon arrival in the country. There have been several naval drills in the region over the past seven days.
In European waters, large numbers continue to cross the English Channel, and there have been reports of loss of life in the Mediterranean. The UK’s Royal Navy is poised to take over duties patrolling the Channel, looking for migrant traffic.
