Weekly Security and Risk Report 15/09/2021

MAST’s weekly security report issue 298 is available to read now.

The past week has seen multiple people kidnapped from waterways in Nigeria. Reports say most of these hostages have been returned safely.

Elsewhere, Kenya has been removed from the High Risk Area (HRA) and is no longer on the piracy red list, the @International Maritime Organization has announced.

In Southeast Asia, the US and Thailand conducted joint naval training, as part of an exercise to demonstrate their partnership and commitment to maritime security.

In Europe, nearly 2,000 migrants crossed the English Channel in small boats over the past week – a new record for a seven-day period. The large numbers of crossings may be due to the favourable weather conditions.
