In Somalia, Al Shabaab terrorists have again struck civilian targets in the country, as well as operating on the border with Ethiopia. The oil and gas industry continues to express concerns over the region’s potential, given the security issues within the country.
In Yemen, concerns over the end of the truce appear to have been mitigated, while the final week of the existing agreement saw a significant number of casualties.
In the UK, there are renewed fears over the safety of radioisotopes, with warnings that hostile actors could secure them in order to create a dirty bomb. The UK plans to isolate convicted terrorists in order to prevent further radicalisation within the prison system. Security for last weekend’s Euro football finals was increased significantly, reports suggest.
In Afghanistan, the US reported the killing of al Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, in a drone strike. In Ukraine, three UK citizens captured while fighting against Russian forces, are due to stand trial.
